Dr. Adi Runs Our First Vet Clinics!
Millions of homeless dogs and cats are euthanized each year because there aren’t enough fosters, adopters, rescues and shelters to support them. The homeless pets who don’t get euthanized might be roaming the streets, fighting every day to feed themselves and stay alive. Meanwhile, there are still tens of thousands puppies and kittens born in the US every single day, further contributing to the pet overpopulation crisis.
Amelia Air’s mission has always focused on helping homeless animals in need by flying them from overcrowded shelters to rescues with greater capacity and loving fosters and adopters. In 2022, the Amelia Air team started branching out efforts to support rescue animals by providing spay and neuter services to low-income communities. By spaying and neutering pets in more rural communities we help to reduce the number of unwanted litters, unclaimed pets, and overpopulation in those areas. Moreover, spaying and neutering pets at a younger age has health benefits such as reduced chances of cancer, and behavioral benefits such as reduced markings, mounting, aggression, and roaming.
The Amelia Air team member Adi, who is both a pilot and a veterinarian, volunteered at two Amelia Air sponsored spay and neuter clinics in 2022. One clinic was put together with our partners at Priceless Pets which focused on cats only, and the second clinic included both dogs and cats in partnership with the Porterville Non-Profit Spay and Neuter Clinic. More than 50 animals were fixed by the Amelia Air team during those two clinics alone, which like a ripple effect, made a profound impact on countless more saved lives.
The Amelia Air Force has big plans for 2023 – including more animals flying to safety and more animals receiving medical care and getting spayed and neutered at little to no cost.
