Amelia Air Featured on Broadway Barks!

Being an active part of the animal rescue community is its own reward, but it is always such an honor when major animal advocates choose to recognize and amplify the work being done by Amelia Air! So our whole team was understandably thrilled when Broadway legend and ultra-animal activist Bernadette Peters invited our co-founder Petra Janney and her superstar aunt Allison to participate in this year's Broadway Barks to celebrate Amelia Air!

Broadway Barks is an annual animal adoption event held in New York City to promote the rescue of shelter animals. Founded by the inimitable Bernadette Peters and television icon Mary Tyler Moore, the event has been held every July in Shubert Alley, starting in 1999. Due to the pandemic, the event went virtual in both 2020 and 2021 - which resulted in an opportunity for the public to recognize and support shelters and animal rescue organizations far beyond the New York City region.

Petra and Allison were honored to participate in the program, which included a live Zoom interview with Bernadette Peters, as well as the presentation of a most incredible honor for Petra & Amelia Air: the Mary Tyler Moore Award! Established in 2017 by Bernadette Peters to honor the memory of her late friend and Broadway Barks co-founder, the award has now been given out each year to an individual or group that has advocated for the well-being of homeless animals and has encouraged others to do the same.

During the virtual interview, Bernadette highlighted Allison's lifelong history of animal rescue and advocacy (including her prior appearance at Broadway Barks 2009!) and focused on the details of the work being done by Petra and the whole team at Amelia Air. The program also included a beautiful four-minute montage video of recent Amelia Air animal rescue footage.
